Book Review of Edwin Quinlan's
"Flight Instructor's Lesson Plan Handbook"
by Instructor Pilot, Ron Weber
- The book is well-organized and very easy to read, following exactly the Practical
Test Standards handbook.
- Lesson Plans are completed in detail, following the FAA recommended format. In
fact, Quinlan's lesson plans are so complete that they allow teaching directly from
the lesson plan itself, obviating the need to construct expanded Instructor's Actions.
This is particularly helpful to the CFI candidate as it allows him to devote more
time to the thorough development of his instructional knowledge of teaching areas
rather than expending time writing complex lesson plans.
- Quinlan does an exceptional job of listening and discussing important "Elements"
and "Instructor Actions" for each task lesson plan. He covers every aspect of a
teaching topic. These two sections, coupled with his "Common Errors" section offer
extensive guidance for thorough ground instruction.
