Commander ASSR, IFR Flight Training School of Austin, Texas has outfitted its first
Commander 114B with a fifth seat belt and shoulder harness. The installation has
been done to provide for a third occupant in the aft seat. The present engineering
will accommodate a child up to 85 pounds. Additional engineering can be done to
accommodate heavier weights.
Through a joint agreement, engineering is being made available for other Commander
112 and 114 owners. Commander owners desiring the engineering serialized for their
aircraft should call Mark Wilson, toll free,

at 1-800-9-FLY-IFR. Rocky Howard, with Aerodesign Aircraft Engineering, Inc.,
and Mark are preparing the 36-page approved engineering data for a fee of $650.00.
Mr. Howard, an FAA Designated Engineering Representative (DER), has also applied
for a fifth seat belt/shoulder harness Supplemental Type Certificate (STC). Parts
for the installation are available by contacting the Commander Aircraft Factory.
The factory parts currently cost between $141.00 and $236.00, depending on type
of shoulder harness selected. Labor and other materials are estimated to cost $225.00.
The total installation cost estimate is $1,100.00.
