4000 hours in 21 types of aircraft. Gary holds an Airline Transport Pilot certificate
and is authorized to instruct in both single and multi-engine aircraft. In 2004
the National Association of Flight Instructors awarded Gary the designation of Master
Instructor. This honor is reserved for exceptional instructors and acknowledges
the professionalism and dedication that he has exhibited throughout his aviation
career.
In 2003 Gary achieved the status of FAA Gold Seal Flight Instructor. This designation
is issued to flight instructors who maintain a high level of flight training activity
and whose students have a high pass rate on their checkrides. He also participates
in the FAA's Flight Proficiency Program and has attained Phase Fifteen Wings standing.
Gary currently serves as an FAA Aviation Safety Counselor and instructs in the prestigious
Beechcraft Pilot Proficiency Program.
Although currently between planes, Gary has owned 4 Beechcraft Bonanzas over the
past 25 years. Memorable flights in the Bonanza include the Cayman Islands, Nantucket
Island, and numerous trips to the Colorado Rockies. Aspen and Telluride are among
his favorite destinations. His Colorado flights have included stops in Leadville,
North America's highest airport at an elevation of 9,927 feet. Gary looks forward
to his annual flight to the Oshkosh air show.
A 1979 graduate of the University Of Nebraska College Of Engineering, Gary spent
the next 20 years working in the construction industry. A move to Austin allowed
him to pursue his passion for aviation. Gary holds a U.S. national record for "Largest
General Aviation Formation". The record was set in 1995 and consisted of 132 Bonanzas
flying in formation enroute to Oshkosh AirVenture. His other interests include travel,
scuba diving, Golden Retriever Rescue and playing the guitar. Gary and his wife
share their home with five Golden Retrievers.
